History

How it began, and the early years

In the summer of 1987 a group of people comprising professionals from various sectors started to meet with a common concern: neglect of the historical city centre, its most noteworthy sites, and a lack of action from politicians and architects.

For a number of years, poor planning of Palma's expansion caused a progressive abandonment of the historical centre. It was almost impossible to give life to the city's oldest streets.

The founders of ARCA shared that European sensibility which cherishes the “culture of historical centres”.  This outlook was still quite foreign to Mallorca.
